We always like the choice of having a timer or not. The only thing I didn't like about your other game "Blood Ties" was the timer. I hope more people give the game a chance. Thanks for taking the time to play Crime Line – I hope you enjoy it, and look forward to hearing from you! And as long as there is an audience for it, I’ll continue to make story-based games. I value your comments and criticisms - your support helps me make better games. If you’re willing, I’d like very much to hear your thoughts about Crime Line. I know this design will not appeal to everyone (especially those who don’t like reading!) but every item you find and every interaction with the witnesses is important and revealing. Sometimes the game will feel like an interactive story. I enjoy those styles of gameplay, but I wanted everything you do in Crime Line to give you more story and insight into the characters. I didn’t use traditional game mechanics, like key/lock, jigsaw puzzles, or random object collection. I tried to make the gameplay relate directly to the story. The plots and dialogue aren’t any more lurid than what you’d see or hear on regular television, but the content isn’t appropriate for small children. Some of Crime Line’s stories are dark, while others are more lighthearted (if murder can be such a thing). I was inspired by Agatha Christie’s short story collections, which I read voraciously as a boy. Instead of one long story, I chose to create several different stories so you could get through a case in 15 to 20-minutes. All my games focus on storytelling in gameplay.Ĭrime Line has the most plot and dialogue of all the games I’ve made, with over 30,000 words - enough for a small book! In it, witnesses tell you about a murder, and you must decide who is lying and who is telling the truth. My company, Golden Bough Games, made four HOG/Adventure games: Blood Ties (which I consulted on), Keys to Manhattan, Finding Hope and Crime Line. My name is Michael Ahn and I’m the writer and designer of Crime Line, and I’m very excited to have my fourth game released by Big Fish Games!
